Global Justice contexts for presenting and practising grammar
TEACHING AND PRACTISING GRAMMAR:
'What am I doing? ... I'm opening the door...' - Present Continuous; 'How many countries have you been to / shoes have you got / cars have you driven ...? - Present Perfect; 'Yesterday, Mary (or some other invented, non-existent person) got up at 7. She had breakfast ...' - Past simple; 'If you won £1,000,000, what would you do?...' - 2nd conditional....
IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE LIKE THIS (boring, distant and/or promoting a capitalist / consumerist world view)!!!!
Below are some of the many 'global justice' contexts you can use with articles and Ready Lessons from this wiki:
Passives:
Used to + infinitive:
Comparatives: practise comparing literacy and life expectancy in North Korea and Myanmar:
Present perfect active and passive: compare active achievements of women from the past to now with passive examples of what's been done to them:
Present Continuous: what are various countries around the world doing to combat climate change?:
and a Ready Lesson:
Past Simple (regular/irregular verbs - pre-int level): summarise these short stories about women wearing veils:
Present perfect: what have all the groups in these stories done to help refugees?:
or in Ready Lesson form:
Review of conditionals: discussing health inequality around the world:
or a Ready Lesson hypothesizing about conservation, poaching, fund-raising etc and how much they help:
The more ... the more ...:
Various grammar areas: different groups review verbs, prepositions and articles with the same text:
Question forms: in this lesson about Pangolins (what are they??):
